Home fitness equipment has never been more popular or affordable. But with so much choice and different types of machines, which one is best for you? This article compares the benefits of an exercise rowing machine against those of a treadmill. Of course if you have the space AND the budget you could buy one of each and the benefits of both machines!

Advantages:

  • Don't require power supply

  • Low impact form of exercise

Disadvantages:
  • Some find rowing dull and won't be motivated

A treadmill is a good option if:-
  • You have the space at home      
  • Your budget is at least $750     
  • You enjoy walking and running
  • Want to improve your cardiovascular system
  • Your goal is to lose weight


​Advantages:
  • Excellent for cardio workouts
  • You can walk, jog or run
  • Cushioned decks are less stressful on joints compared to road running
  • Most models have pre-set training programs
  • Moderate running burns 550 calories/ hour
  • Great for toning
  • Great for weight loss
  • Can see results fast

Disadvantages:
  • Good models can be expensive
  • Take up a lot of space
  • Can be noisy
  • Doesn't work your upper body
 
Both rowing machines and treadmills are a great way to improve your cardiovascular system and burn up calories. if you have both the space and the budget, the main factor in deciding between a rowing machine or treadmill is which action to you prefer most. There is no sense in buying a rowing machine if you find the rowing action dull - you just won't use it.
